Vision Edition is a publishing environment about music created by composer and author John Palmer in 2013. Its origin goes back to 1973 with Palmer’s early works including songwriting and literary texts. In 1990 the first Vision Studio for the production of electroacoustic music works was created in Elstree, Hertfordshire. The artistic link between musical and literary works has expanded ever since. The Vision Archives now include several studies, analyses and articles on music, and more than 500 literary texts written in the past 40 years.
John Palmer holds a PhD from City University, London, and is currently Professor at the State University of Music and Performing Arts of Stuttgart, Germany. He was a Senior Lecturer in Composition at the University of Hertfordshire (1995-2000) and Lecturer at the University of Oxford, Kellog College (1991-1995). He is the author of Jonathan Harvey’s Bhakti for Chamber Ensemble and Electronics: Serialism, Electronics and Spirituality, published by the Edwin Mellen Press in 2001, and the co-author of Integrating Skills Development with Academic Content in Higher Education for the HILP project at the University of Hertfordshire (2001). Since 1996 several of Palmer’s papers and articles have been published in Avant (UK), the Seamus Journal (USA), The Royal Swedish Academy of Music Publishing, Universitätsverlag Rasch (Germany), the Journal of Acoustic Ecology (Canada), Living Music (USA), Biblioteca Statale di Cremona Editrice (Italy), The Sonic Arts Journal of Electroacoustic Music (UK), Pfau Neue Musik (Germany), Tempo (UK), Edizioni Orizzonti Meridionali (Italy), 20th and 21st Century Music (USA).
In September 2013 Vision Edition published John Palmer’s Rhythm to go. Following the success of the first edition, the second and third edition were published in 2014 and 2015. The fourth edition followed in 2016. The book can be purchased directly from CE Books, alternatively from Amazon.
The music catalogue of Vision Edition consists of writings on composition, aesthetics, musicology and applied musicianship of an educational nature.
